Gilbert Omenn, M.D., Ph.D., has been professor of Internal Medicine, Human Genetics, Public Health, and Bioinformatics at the University of Michigan since 1997. During 1997-2002 he was also Executive Vice-President for Medical Affairs and CEO of the University of Michigan Health System. From 1982-1997 he was professor of medicine and environmental health and dean of the School of Public Health & Community Medicine at the University of Washington, and a senior member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Earlier, he was a White House Fellow at the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission during the Nixon Administration and Associate Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and of the Office of Management and Budget in the Carter Administration. He was a student in the laboratory of Professor Ephraim Katzir at The Weizmann Institute and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator at the University of Washington.
