Imad Moustapha presented his credentials to President Hu JinTao in March 2012 as the Ambassador of Syria to China. Prior to that, he served as his country’s Ambassador in Washington DC from 2003 to 2011. Before joining the diplomatic corps, he was an academic at the University of Damascus. From 2000 to 2003 he served as Dean of Information Technology at that university, as well as Secretary General of the Arab School on Science and Technology. Throughout his academic career, Imad Moustapha acted as a consultant to several international, Arab and regional organizations such as the ESCWA, UNDP, UNESCO, and ALECSO. He is a co-author of the renowned UN report “Human Development in the Arab World”. Imad Moustapha was very active on the international media scene, with numerous appearances on U.S., European, Arab and Chinese TV programs. In addition to the large number of newspapers’ interviews that he had given he has published many articles and opinion editorials in major American and Arab newspapers. He has also authored and translated many books. He is skilled in both English and French with a moderate command of German. He is currently studying Chinese. His personal interests include history, art, Western classical music and WeiQi. Currently he is assiduously exploring the enchanting world of Peking Opera. Imad Moustapha holds a Ph.D. from the University of Surrey, U.K. He is married and father to two children.
