Michael Broberg Palmgren is senior groupleader at the PUMPkin Centre and professor at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences - Section for Transport Biology at the University of Copenhagen. The focus of Michael Broberg Palmgren's research group is on the biological pumps found in plants. Their goal is to learn how such pumps function, how they are regulated, and what their physiological roles are. In plants, there are different P-type pumps pumping protons, calcium, heavy metals and perhaps also phospholipids. The P-type pumps that we study are, amongst other functions, essential for nutrient uptake, stress tolerance, vesicle formation in the secretory pathway and signal transduction.
