Young-Ki Paik, Professor of Yonsei University, Korea. After earning his bachelor’s in Biochemisty at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, Young-Ki Paik briefly held a Research Associate position for the Agency for Defense Development, Daejeon, Korea, before travelling to the United States in order to pursue his doctorate at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Achieving this goal in 1983, he held a postdoctoral position at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases until 1986 when he became a Staff Research Investigator. After leaving the Gladstone Institute in 1993, he returned to Yonsei University to become an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry. In 1995, Paik became a full Professor, and in 2000 was appointed Director of the Yonsei Proteome Research Center where he performs research on the discovery of disease biomarkers.Paik has authored or co-authored over 150 publications and has been awarded multiple patents for his discoveries. Paik is a member of the Editorial Board for multiple journals including Proteomics, Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics, and Clinical Proteomics. Paik is currently the Chair of the Chromosome-Centric Human Proteome Project and is the former President of HUPO, AOHUPO, and KHUPO, as well as the current President of the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
